BatamFast recently collaborated with Bank Indonesia to support the QRIS Cross Border awareness campaign, introducing passengers to a convenient digital payment method that can be used when travelling between Indonesia and Singapore.
The socialization campaign was held on 10 July 2026 onboard selected BatamFast ferry services connecting Batam Centre Ferry Terminal and HarbourFront Centre in Singapore.
Through this initiative, passengers were invited to experience how QRIS Cross Border transactions can make cross-border payments simpler, faster, and more accessible.
What Is QRIS?
QRIS, or the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, is Indonesia’s national QR code payment standard developed by Bank Indonesia. It allows customers to make digital payments by scanning a single standardized QR code using supported mobile banking or digital payment applications.
With QRIS, merchants do not need to provide different QR codes for each payment provider. Customers can simply open a supported application, scan the merchant’s QRIS code, check the transaction details, and confirm the payment.
QRIS Cross Border extends this convenience to international transactions by connecting compatible payment systems between participating countries. This allows eligible travellers to use supported payment applications when making purchases abroad, including between Indonesia and Singapore.
What Is QRIS Cross Border?
QRIS Cross Border enables users of supported payment applications to scan compatible QR codes and complete transactions in participating countries.
For non-QRIS users travelling to Batam, the service can provide a more convenient way to make payments in Indonesian rupiah without relying entirely on cash.
QRIS users visiting Singapore may also use supported Indonesian payment applications at participating merchants displaying compatible QR payment codes.
The availability of cross-border QR payments can help make everyday transactions more convenient, including payments at shops, restaurants, tourist attractions, and other participating businesses.
Passengers should check whether their banking or digital payment application supports QRIS Cross Border before making a transaction.
QRIS Cross Border Socialization Onboard BatamFast Ferries
The campaign was conducted onboard the following BatamFast sailings:
- Batam Centre (BTC) to HarbourFront Centre (HFC) at 07:00
- HarbourFront Centre (HFC) to Batam Centre (BTC) at 19:10
During the journey, representatives introduced passengers to QRIS Cross Border and demonstrated how digital payments can be completed across Indonesia and Singapore using participating payment applications.
The onboard setting allowed passengers to learn about the payment method while travelling directly between the two countries, making the campaign relevant to their actual travel experience.
Passengers Invited to Experience Cross-Border QRIS Transactions
As part of the campaign, Bank Indonesia provided complimentary snack packages to passengers who successfully experienced QRIS Cross Border transactions.
Foreign passengers visiting Indonesia were invited to complete an IDR 1,000 payment using QRIS Cross Border. Meanwhile, Indonesian passengers travelling to Singapore could experience an SGD 0.01 cross-border transaction.
These small-value transactions allowed passengers to become familiar with the payment process in a simple and practical way.
The campaign received a positive response from passengers and successfully demonstrated the convenience of using digital payments when travelling between Indonesia and Singapore.
A Convenient Payment Method for Travellers Between Indonesia and Singapore
Batam and Singapore are closely connected through frequent ferry services, with many passengers travelling for holidays, business, shopping, family visits, and weekend trips.
Having access to practical payment options is therefore an important part of the travel experience.
QRIS Cross Border can help travellers complete transactions using their mobile phones, reducing the need to prepare large amounts of physical cash for smaller purchases.
For tourists visiting Batam, digital payments can be particularly useful when shopping, dining, or exploring local destinations. The service also gives QRIS users another payment option when visiting participating merchants in Singapore.
Supporting Digital Payment Awareness for Tourists in Batam
Batam is one of Indonesia’s key entry points for international visitors, particularly travellers arriving from Singapore.
Introducing QRIS Cross Border to ferry passengers can help improve awareness of digital payment options before they arrive at their destination.
The collaboration between BatamFast and Bank Indonesia also supports efforts to create a smoother and more connected travel experience for both Indonesian and international passengers.
By learning how to use QRIS Cross Border during their ferry journey, passengers can feel more prepared to make digital payments after arriving in Batam or Singapore.
Continuing the QRIS Cross Border Awareness Campaign
Following the positive response to the onboard socialization event, BatamFast has been entrusted by Bank Indonesia to continue supporting QRIS Cross Border awareness through more engaging promotional programs and activities.
Future initiatives are expected to help more passengers understand how cross-border QR payments work and how they can be used during their travels.
This collaboration reflects BatamFast’s commitment to supporting passenger convenience and improving the overall travel experience between Indonesia and Singapore.
To support this campaign, this August, non-Indonesian passport holders who will purchase their return ticket from BatamFast Batam counters (Batam Center, Sekupang, Gold Coast, Nongsapura) going to Singapore can enjoy a limited discount of IDR 135,000*.
